Valentine’s day is thought of by many as a meaningless hallmark holiday, but has come to encompass a downright lovely idea – of celebrating your love with those you care about. Whether it be your Significant Other, your best friends or a new flame, Valentine’s day is the time of year we appreciate the little things a bit more. In the spirit of love I have compiled a guide to Valentine’s day makeup – be it your first day or your fiftieth!
THE FIRST DATE
First dates are intimidating enough without worrying about whether you’ve wiped your lipstick across your face (and theirs) after your first kiss, so I would suggest a toned-down look. A fresh base combined with fluttery lashes and muted, just-bitten pink lips give a romantic english rose vibe. Mix a liquid highlighter with your usual primer for a lit-from-within glow — I love the Custom FX Custom Enhancing Drops for this. A light foundation such as Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint combines beautifully with this, and finish the look with a sweep of Nars blush in Orgasm. For a doe-eyed look, curl lashes at the base and finish with a few coats of Blinc tubing mascara.
THE (PAL)ENTINES DATE
Celebrating with friends is the perfect time to try more daring makeup. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette has the best hues for a bold romantic look; matched with a vivid fuchsia like Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Sugar Plum you will exude confidence and turn heads. Best of all, ABH’s liquid lipstick won’t budge – making it absolutely cocktail-proof!
THE FIFTIETH DATE
After the first forty-nine dates, date night can become mundane and routine. Valentine’s day is the ideal time to make an extra effort to make the night special, and what better way than by taking inspiration from Marilyn Monroe? Pair a red lip with winged black eyeliner for classic Hollywood glamour. Kat Von D’s tattoo liner gives the most unsteady of hands a razor-sharp application, and a pair of falsies such as Ardell’s Demi-Wispies give this look a seductive edge. See my post on Red Lips 101 for a guide on what red lipstick to choose!
